Crew of the USCG cutter Thetis while on patrol late last year lookouts spotted a large flosum group that seemed to be moving. Upon further and closer inspection the crew discovered a loggerhead turtle was entangled in 26 bales of cocaine worth about 53 million dollars. Crew carefully cut loose the turtle that had chaffing around the tangled lines caught around the turtles neck and flippers. Enough chaffing that indicating the Turtle was tangled for some time. Most likely drug smugglers dropped this load of drugs in a hurry and planned on returing to pick up the floating group using cell phone tracking devices, as bouy’s and poles are seen with cell phones taped to them. No one was arrested and the drugs were returned to shore for proper disposal. The turtle was set free.
