OSVDPA ANNOUNCES 2019 TAC MEMBERSHIP REPRESENTATIVES
Individual and Corporate Membership Communities Elect Representatives to the TAC
New Orleans, LA – The Offshore Service Vessel Dynamic Positioning Authority, Inc. (OSVDPA) announced the
election of Individual and Corporate Membership Representatives to its Technical Advisory Council (TAC). Captain
Steven Mason (Individual Membership Representative) and SeaTran Marine, LLC (Corporate Membership
Representative), represented by Mr. Jack Jowers, were elected to represent their respective Membership communities
on the TAC for the 2019 Calendar Year.
Capt. Mason, who will be serving his second year on the TAC as an Individual Membership Representative, is the
Master of an OSV and has been in the offshore oil and gas industry for more than two decades. He currently holds
an OSVDPA Class A DPO Certificate, a Nautical Institute Unlimited DP Operator’s Certificate, and is also an
OSVDPA Qualified on Board Assessor (QOBA). Mr. Jowers has been operating out of SeaTran Marine’s New Iberia,
Louisiana office since 2008, serving in the capacity of Vice President and General Counsel. He manages the
company’s internal organization, legal matters, human resources, and Health, Safety and Environmental concerns.
Every December, the OSVDPA holds its annual election whereby OSVDPA members elect two of their own to be
Membership Representatives to the TAC. The TAC, which is comprised of dynamic positioning (DP) experts from
various sectors of the industry, is charged with making recommendations to the OSVDPA Board of Directors on all
matters dealing with the crafting, implementation, and execution of the OSVDPA’s certification program.
Executive Director of the OSVDPA, Aaron Smith, said, “The OSVDPA is elated to have Capt. Mason and Mr. Jowers
serving as TAC Membership Representatives. This year we saw an increase in both Individual and Corporate
Membership applications, so we’re extremely excited to work with Capt. Mason and Mr. Jowers to see how we can
be of better service to the industry at large. I know both of these gentlemen will be outstanding representatives of
their respective Membership communities, and we look forward to their input on our upcoming projects.”
“Many mariners like myself are very aware of the important role the OSVDPA has played, and will continue to play,
with the OSV and offshore industries.” said Capt. Mason. “I believe my combination of being a Master of an OSV
and my operational DP experience will be a benefit to the TAC. I am really looking forward to another year on the
TAC! I appreciate the honor and I will do my best to represent my fellow mariner,” he added.
Mr. Jowers, who will be representing SeaTran Marine, LLC as the Corporate Membership Representative, had this
to say about his role on the TAC, “I’m very excited to be involved with the OSVDPA project. I believe my experience
as a former captain, joined with my background in law and maritime management can bring unique insight to the DP
