The tugboat Wisconsin, is believed to be the oldest tugboat still working in the United States. She works on the Great Lakes. Built as the steam-powered tug America in Buffalo, NY., 1897. Great Lakes Towing acquired her in 1916 and repowered her with a diesel engine in 1950.
Some crew members say she’s haunted. In 1941 she sank with the loss of 6 crew members while trying to free the ore ship B.F. Jones. She rolled 360 degrees than sank all within 5 seconds. The Captain escaped by punching out the wheelhouse windows with his fist, he also dragged a company man out with him. Men who work on her feel the six men who died have never left the tug.
